Where does your heart lie?

Jeremiah 17:10 is a very interesting passage. It states “But I, the Lord, search all hearts and examine secret motives. I give all people their due rewards, according to what their actions deserve.” As I studied this passage, what really drew me in was the words “hearts, all, rewards and actions.” It’s this clear concise message explaining how our existence operates according to God’s very own logic. As God examines our hearts, our motives are revealed to him and then our reward is distributed. We will inevitably act on what we believe in our hearts, whether we are right or wrong, our heart ultimately dictate our actions. I further pondered on why God examines the heart, I mean he could’ve examined the mind, but no, it’s the heart. In Jeremiah 17:9 it says “The human heart is the most deceitful of all things, and desperately wicked. Who really knows how bad it is?” Only God knows the depths of our hearts and our motives. Our heart is our soul, spirit, will, desires, it’s where our courage comes from, our intellect, our inner most feelings, and our secret purpose and intentions. This shows that all our ways derive from the heart, essentially, so we learn to understand this deepen beautiful knowing of how God will examine and judge the choices we make.

In Proverbs 3:5-6 it states “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.” So, when we align our hearts with God’s word and when we choose to fully-wholeheartedly trust in him, our choices will align with what is right and good for us. If we are choosing to trust God with all our heart, we are demonstrating this conscious dependence on him. As we consciously depend on God, we observe him and get to know him personally in our process of living on this earth. This observance is our way of acknowledging God and setting aside time to spend with him. It’s honoring God for our existence and slowing pruning our heart from all the iniquitous conceptions. The word tells us that we will find God if we seek him with all our hearts (Jeremiah 29:13). The nifty effect of seeking God and honoring God is in our actions. By display, we’re showing God that were putting his instructions for our lives into drive and that’s where the reward comes from. Like I stated earlier, another word that struck me was “all.” Clearly, not all people live by this standard, so not all rewards will be top tier. It also explicates that God inspects every single person’s heart on this earth, whether we believe in him or not, and he will give us our due reward according to what our actions deserve. So were learning that we have to put our actions in drive for the Kingdom. We have to set our minds on the things above and set our hearts on the light of God. We have to treasure God’s word and his will for our lives because as the bible states “for where your treasure is, your heart will be also” (Psalm 37:4).

Our hearts are precious and needs to be inspected regularly. We have to align our hearts with the Word of God. When we do this alignment, we are revealed God’s will. It’s an everyday, continual practice of demonstrating our love for him. We honor God by following the Holy Spirit and choosing to live a life that is pleasing to him. The only way to know how to live a life that is please to God is by reading, studying, and meditating on his word, the bible. The second way to align ourselves with the will of God is by talking to him, so we must pray, everyday! This is how our hearts will be filled with the goodness of God. As we delight in the Lord, he will give us the desires of our heart (Psalm 37:4). Our lives are meaningful, and God cares about each and every one of us so much, and it’s important for us to take heed to his love and his delight for us. Honestly, that’s the only way we’ll be able to clearly visualize how our lives are supposed to operate on this earth.
